A Retail Experiment

Featured Trunks

Featured Trunks

Featured Trunks are curated looks composed of up to 12 clothing items. They are seasonally relevant and themed, which makes refreshing your wardrobe that much easier.

Launch

The idea first launched right after I began my time at Trunk Club. Since its inception I have played an integral role in shaping the creative process that we use to bring each Trunk to life.

The results

We produced two Featured Trunks every week, one for men and one for women. At the end of Nordstrom’s 2017 fiscal year Featured Trunks had generated over $25 Million.

From inbox to purchase

Customer journey

The process of ordering a Featured Trunk begins in the email inbox. From there, we direct customers to simple landing pages with outfit ideas and styling tips related to the items in the trunk. The final step is a request page that gives customers the opportunity to leave their stylist any instructions that may be relevant when packing the trunk. You can check out this process using the accompanying mobile prototype for one of my favorite trunks, Summer Shoes.

Visual design

I put a lot of time into the visual design for this project because I wanted to practice designing icons. Iconography has never been my forte but I saw Pinpoint as an opportunity to really develop my skills. I also wanted to challenge myself to use gradients and shadows in the icons so I wasn’t just reverting back to the flat icons I’ve grown comfortable making over the years. The use of shadows extended into the logo design as well, adding subtle dimension.
